Does Firebird support hot backup?

Yes.

Firebird has MGA (MVCC) architecture that enables you to run backup while other users are working on the system. It creates a snapshot of the database at the point of time when backup started. Backup is just another transaction being run (as if you have one more user connected), so there is no impact on performance for other users. This is a reason why backup might take longer time.
